Care
Light. Bright, indirect light. Variegated tissue carries less chlorophyll and scorches more easily than green, so filter strong sun.
Water and humidity. Keep the substrate evenly moist, never wet. Aim for 60% humidity or higher.
Feeding. A balanced feed programme through spring and summer; ease off in winter.
Dormancy. An Alocasia that drops its leaves in the cold is usually resting, not dead. Keep it warm and barely moist and it will push again.

Looking for Alocasia scalprum 'Aurea'? This rare aurea variegated form of Alocasia scalprum is a genuinely compelling find, a species already prized by collectors for its unusual, elongated blade-like foliage and made rarer still by the warm yellow-green marbling that defines the 'Aurea' expression.
Alocasia scalprum is one of the more architecturally distinctive species in the genus. Native to Borneo, its narrow, lance-shaped leaves have a rigid, sculptural quality unlike the broad arrow-shaped foliage of more familiar Alocasia. The 'Aurea' cultivar preserves that form entirely while adding a luminous layer of green and yellow marbling across the leaf surface. The colouration shifts and intensifies under bright indirect light, giving the foliage a vivid, almost backlit quality that makes it one of the more photogenic aurea variegates in the hobby. Unlike chimeric albo expression, aurea variegation of this type tends to be more consistent between leaves, so what you see is broadly what you will continue to get as the plant matures and grows.
Scalprum 'Aurea' does well in the same conditions that suit most collector Alocasia. Bright indirect light is non-negotiable for maintaining the vibrancy of the aurea colouration, and humidity above 60% will keep growth steady and the foliage in good condition. All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for corms and baby Alocasia, held in our 3D printed Corm Keeper stand. Once fully rooted and at juvenile size we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.
