Plant Description
Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' Bright Aurea Variegated
Looking for scale-textured foliage lit up in near-neon colour? Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' Bright Aurea takes the beloved textured leaf of Dragon Scale and pushes the variegation to its most vivid extreme, bright yellow through to an almost electric green against the deep green base, with every leaf carrying a completely different pattern that makes each specimen one of a kind.
Why collectors prize the Bright Aurea
This is the loudest of the aurea forms. Where a standard aurea reads as warm gold, the Bright Aurea comes through in luminous, high-key yellow and bright, almost neon green, so the variegated sections seem to glow against the dark scaled base. The contrast is dramatic and immediate. Combined with the raised, reptilian texture that gives Dragon Scale its name, the effect turns the classic scale-like leaf into something genuinely electric. No two leaves are identical, and the brightest sectors sit at the very top of what aurea variegation can produce.
A statement plant for the rare collection
Ideal for collectors after something exceptional, this form keeps the manageable mature size of Dragon Scale while adding the extraordinary appeal of bright variegation. The textured foliage with its ever-changing, high-contrast patterns ensures this remains a conversation-starting centrepiece, every leaf telling its own story in vivid colour.
As with all aurea forms, light is the key variable. Bright, indirect light brings the neon yellow and bright green to their most vivid, while lower light softens the contrast. Keep humidity high and water once the top of the substrate begins to dry.
All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for corms and baby Alocasia, held in our 3D printed Corm Keeper stand. Once fully rooted and at juvenile size we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.
