Pests are an unavoidable reality of growing Alocasia, particularly in the warm, humid conditions these plants thrive in. Spider mites, thrips, scale insects, and mealybugs are the most common problems UK collectors encounter, and all of them share one characteristic: they are significantly easier to deal with when caught early. A plant under pest pressure that goes untreated will decline quickly, and for rare or high-value specimens the cost of losing a plant far outweighs the cost of staying on top of prevention.
