Plant Description
Alocasia 'Venom Aurea'
Looking for Alocasia 'Venom Aurea'? This is the aurea variegated form of Alocasia 'Venom', the hybrid bred by Mason Lee of Mason Plants in South Korea, and one of the rarest expressions of an already highly sought-after cultivar. Very few examples have reached UK collections.
Where the standard Venom is prized for its deep, dark foliage and bold contrasting veins, the Aurea form layers broad washes of gold and chartreuse across the blade. The variegation marbles through the leaf rather than sitting in hard-edged sectors, blending from butter-gold through lime into deep green, and every new leaf emerges with its own arrangement. No two specimens are alike, which is precisely what makes aurea forms of this calibre such a rare find.
This is grown from corm, not a TC!
Care follows the standard Venom. Bright, indirect light will keep the gold tissue well expressed; avoid direct sun, as variegated sections scorch more readily than pure green growth. Provide humidity of 60% or above, a free-draining chunky aroid mix, and a gentle balanced feed programme through the growing season. Juvenile plants establish quickly in warm, stable conditions.
