Plant Description
Alocasia Reginae Albo: Rare Albo Variegated Borneo Collector's Specimen
This is one of the most coveted albo-variegated forms of the Bornean Alocasia reginae, a species already prized for its blue-green, silvered foliage and here carrying chimeric albo variegation that produces cream and white sectors.
True Chimeric Albo Variegation
Reginae Albo is genuinely chimeric, meaning the variegation is generated at the meristem and cannot be reliably tissue-cultured true to type. Each leaf is a unique expression of cream and white sectoring against the species' silvery, almost-pewter base, a combination that is very difficult to find in the UK. As with all albo cultivars, expression can shift between leaves and reversion is always a possibility. This is part of the appeal for collectors and is best managed by leaving variegated growth points intact when pruning.
Care and Positioning
Reginae appreciates bright indirect light and humidity comfortably above 60%. Variegated sectors are more vulnerable to scorch, so filtered light is essential. A gentle balanced feed programme during active growth will support steady leaf production. Reginae enjoys consistent warmth and benefits from established root systems, so we recommend gradual acclimatisation to your conditions after arrival.
All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for corms and baby Alocasia, held in our 3D printed Corm Keeper stand. Once fully rooted and at juvenile size we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.
