Alocasia 'Black Velvet' Dalmatian Variegated

The speckled variegated form of the classic Black Velvet, Alocasia reginula, its near-black, matte foliage broken by scattered flecks of cream and white in a splash-pattern that has earned the cultivar its Dalmatian moniker. A highly sought-after release within the variegated Alocasia world, and one that has remained scarce in UK collections.
The variegation here is splash or mosaic rather than sectoral, which tends to read as an even peppering across the leaf rather than the half-and-half blocks seen in albo forms. Mature plants hold the same compact, low-growing habit as standard Black Velvet, a tidy specimen for a shelf, cabinet or terrarium rather than a statement floor plant, but the contrast between the deep velvety ground and the cream speckling lifts it well above the parent cultivar in collector appeal.
Tissue-cultured stock, so rooting is consistent and the plants leave us already established. Expression of variegation varies leaf to leaf, as it does in all mosaic-type forms; that is part of what makes each plant individual rather than a quality concern.
All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for corms and baby Alocasia, held in our 3D printed Corm Keeper stand. Once fully rooted and at juvenile size we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.

Humidity & Water
The only rule! Don't over water, keep your substrate moist, not wet. Less is more in every watering. High humidity is essential; aim for 60% or higher. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or regular misting
