In Vietnam it is traditionally used as a remedy for the common cold.

In cultivation, *Alocasia odora* is vigorous and relatively forgiving compared to the narrowly endemic jewel species — reflecting its broadly adapted ecological background. It grows to 50-160cm depending on conditions, with large, broadly ovate to slightly heart-shaped leaves on robust petioles. The species is a parent of numerous important hybrids: *Alocasia* × *portora* (with portei), *Alocasia* 'Regal Shields' (with reginula), *Alocasia* 'Calidora' (with gageana), and several other widely grown cultivars. The 'Okinawa Silver' cultivar is specifically selected for its silver-infused splash variegation pattern — the silver quality of the lighter areas being the distinctive feature that separates it from standard white-variegated odora selections. Care Requirements

*Alocasia odora*'s broadly distributed, broadly adapted nature makes its cultivars somewhat more forgiving than narrowly endemic jewel species. Temperature 18-27°C, humidity 60-75%, Fluval Stratum substrate. Water thoroughly when top 2-3cm is dry. Feed at half strength from our plant feed range every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. LED supplementation from October to March is recommended for maintaining the silver and albo colour quality through UK winters. A heat mat supports root health in winter.
