Alocasia Maharani Aurea: Rare Golden Variegated Hybrid Houseplant
The Alocasia Maharani Aurea is a rare, highly sought-after variegated form of the Maharani hybrid (A. reginula Γ A. melo), compact in habit, with textured silvery-green leaves carrying yellow and green variegation.
Why Collectors Prize This Hybrid
This rare variegated Alocasia combines compact, upright growth with leathery, rough-textured leaves, which makes it well suited to indoor cultivation. The hybrid genetics bring lighter veins, a softer leaf texture than A. melo, and the red abaxials inherited from the Black Velvet parent.
What Distinguishes Maharani Aurea
For serious hybrid collectors, this plant shows features that separate it from its A. melo parent: distinctly lighter venation rather than uniform colouration, a softer leaf texture with less embossing, lighter leaf colouration, and the red undersides retained from the A. reginula heritage. The golden variegation sets it apart again from the standard hybrid.
