Care
Light. Bright, indirect light. Variegated tissue carries less chlorophyll and scorches more easily than green, so filter strong sun.
Water and humidity. Keep the substrate evenly moist, never wet. Aim for 60% humidity or higher.
Feeding. A balanced feed programme through spring and summer; ease off in winter.
Dormancy. An Alocasia that drops its leaves in the cold is usually resting, not dead. Keep it warm and barely moist and it will push again.
Delivery and arrival
Plants are dispatched Monday to Thursday only, so they never sit in a depot over a weekend. Every order is sent with a heat pack and packed plastic-free.

The Alocasia Black Velvet Gold brings together the familiar Black Velvet characteristics and golden variegation, with pink hues, in an evolution of the compact classic.

This variegated Alocasia cultivar carries all the Black Velvet credentials while adding golden variegation that changes with maturity. As leaves develop they move towards a deep golden yellow, rewarding patient collectors with stronger colouration over time.
A Light-Responsive Collector's Plant
Suited to serious plant enthusiasts, new leaves may start darker green and brighten with plenty of light, which makes for a changeable plant to grow on. This rare golden variegated cultivar combines the compact habit and reliability of Black Velvet with golden variegation patterns that differ from plant to plant.
All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for corms and baby Alocasia, held in our 3D printed Corm Keeper stand. Once fully rooted and at juvenile size we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.
