PLANT SPOTLIGHT
Alocasia 'Black Velvet' Dalmatian Variegated
Splash / mosaic variegated form of Alocasia reginula
The Dalmatian is one of the harder-to-find variegated Black Velvets — splash / mosaic rather than albo, so the cream peppering reads as an even scatter across the leaf rather than the sectoral blocks you'd see on a chimeric form. Expression varies leaf-to-leaf, which is exactly what you'd expect from a mosaic; no two of these four are identical.
All four are tissue-cultured, fully rooted, and have settled in here in stratum. Compact and low-growing — at home in a cabinet or terrarium where humidity sits at 60% or above. Bright filtered light, no direct sun (the velvet will scorch). Most of the work is keeping the conditions stable; the leaf does the rest.
