What collectors say
Care
Light. Bright, indirect light. Variegated tissue carries less chlorophyll and scorches more easily than green, so filter strong sun.
Water and humidity. Keep the substrate evenly moist, never wet. Aim for 60% humidity or higher.
Feeding. A balanced feed programme through spring and summer; ease off in winter.
Dormancy. An Alocasia that drops its leaves in the cold is usually resting, not dead. Keep it warm and barely moist and it will push again.
Delivery and arrival
Plants are dispatched Monday to Thursday only, so they never sit in a depot over a weekend. Every order is sent with a heat pack and packed plastic-free.
Free UK delivery on orders over £75. Unpack on arrival and give your plant a few days of steady conditions to acclimatise.
Every plant is covered by our 7-day live arrival guarantee. If there's a problem, email sales@thealocasiacompany.co.uk within 7 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos. Please don't repot in those first 7 days, as repotting voids the guarantee.
Pet safety
Like all aroids, this plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if eaten. Keep it out of reach of cats, dogs and children.
About this cultivar
'DEVIL MONSTER' VARIEGATED
Monstera 'Devil Monster' Variegated
Looking for Monstera 'Devil Monster'? This is one of the more dramatic variegated Monstera cultivars in circulation, and a genuine collector's plant rather than a shelf-filler.
'Devil Monster' is prized for the sheer unpredictability of its variegation. Cream, white, mint and green move across the foliage with no fixed pattern, some leaves throwing large solid blocks of colour, others breaking into fine marbling. Because the variegation is chimeric, no two leaves express alike, and it cannot be guaranteed to come through the same way on every new leaf. That variability is exactly what collectors chase, and it is why a well-expressing plant is worth holding.
A small point worth knowing: this is a climbing aroid, not a self-supporting one. Given a moss pole or support to root into, 'Devil Monster' matures into progressively larger leaves and begins to produce the fenestrations, the natural holes and splits, that Monstera are loved for. Grown without support it stays smaller and slower, so the pole is not optional if you want the plant to develop its full character. The contrast between the variegated sections and the deep green is at its most striking on those larger mature leaves.
In cultivation it is more forgiving than the jewel Alocasia many collectors will know, but the variegated tissue still carries reduced chlorophyll, so bright, indirect light matters both to keep the plant vigorous and to hold the variegation. Keep humidity up, give it a pole to climb, and water once the top of the substrate begins to dry.
All plants are grown in Fluval Stratum, our preferred early-stage medium for rooting and establishing young plants. Once fully rooted and growing away we repot into our own pon mix, blended from components in our Soil Ninja range.
