The 'Ninja' cultivar was introduced to the collector market around 2020 and is distinguished from the standard 'Black Velvet' by several specific characteristics: double marginal veins, paired veins running along the leaf margin rather than the single marginal vein of the standard form, and leaves that are thicker, darker, and more deeply embossed than those of 'Black Velvet'. The leaves are nearly black, with a velvety, matte surface that absorbs rather than reflects light, and the silver-white venation, primary, secondary, and the distinctive double marginal veins, provides stark contrast against this dark ground.
