Alocasia reginae Pink Variegated
Looking for Alocasia reginae Pink Variegated? This is one of the rarest and most visually arresting forms of the Bornean jewel reginae, and a specimen that rewards a collector who understands what pink variegation actually is.
Alocasia reginae is a jewel-class species, compact and thick-leaved, with a silvery blue-green velvet upper surface and, as a lovely quiet detail, a reddish-purple underside that shows when the leaf is turned to the light. It is a plant built for close observation rather than scale. The pink form overlays that cool silver-velvet base with sectors of soft pink, marbled through the green in a way that can be genuinely spectacular when it lands well.
Here is the honest part, and it matters. Pink is the least stable of the Alocasia variegation types. Unlike white albo or golden aurea, pink often expresses unevenly and can vary considerably from leaf to leaf, with some leaves carrying bold pink and others coming through with far less. It cannot be guaranteed to appear on every new leaf, and the intensity you see on one leaf is not a promise for the next. That instability is precisely why a well-expressing pink reginae is so sought-after, and why it is best bought by a collector who values the plant itself rather than a fixed outcome.
Because the pale and pink tissue carries reduced chlorophyll, bright indirect light is important to keep the plant strong and to support what pink it does produce, without scorching the softer sectors. Keep humidity high, water once the top of the substrate begins to dry, and remember this is a velvet-leaved jewel, so water to the substrate rather than the foliage.
