PLANT SPOTLIGHT

Alocasia cuprea Pink Variegated

Four specimens. Sunday at 4pm.

Pink expression on cuprea is one of the harder variegations to find in the genus, and harder still to find on plants that are growing on cleanly rather than corms or freshly-deflasked tissue culture. Four of those plants come out this Sunday.

You already know what cuprea does. Pink overlays the copper base with sectoral blush, sometimes a soft wash across half a leaf, sometimes a sharper sector. Like all chimeric Alocasia, the expression shifts leaf to leaf, and the occasional reverted leaf comes with the cultivar. The plants in this drop have all thrown variegated foliage, are rooted on into collector-ready pots, and have been raised on a balanced feed programme in a chunky aroid mix.
